Thursday Tea Break: Issue 1

Welcome to our first installment of Thursday Tea Break!

This fun series will be a weekly post covering our get-togethers, what we are up to that week, and what books we are excited to get our hands on.

Tea of the Week:

We’ll start every week out with a Tea of the Week! This week we made a list of all the teas that we want to try out during out our little tea parties, so we didn’t have any tea present. Amanda is picking White Chocolate Peppermint tea from Teavana as the tea of choice stand-in. This tea is Rooibos, or red, tea so there is no caffeine and it tastes like dessert in a cup! Unfortunately it looks like this tea was a seasonal tea over the holidays and it isn’t available any more *cries*. It’s so good!

On to the meat and potatoes of the meeting!

Current Reads:

Amanda is reading: The Aeronaut’s Windlass by Jim Butcher and The Magicians by Lev Grossman. (I needed a refresher since the show has started airing!)

Erin is reading: Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi

Lisa is reading: The Poison King: The Life and Legend of Mithradates, Rome’s Deadliest Enemy by Adrienne Mayor

Our Current Obsessions:

There was much discussion about the current and up-coming TV schedule; namely Shadowhunters, The 100, The Magicians, and speculation on the new season of Game of Thrones.

We agreed that the pacing of Shadowhunters is a little too quick in our opinion and that while Katherine McNamara makes a great Clary, her reactions sometimes leave more to be desired. We love Alberto Rosende as Simon and there is a severe lack of Magnus Bane that we would like rectified immediately! (Harry Shum Jr., yes please!)

The Magicians on the other hand, has been wonderful! They changed a few things from the book, but the changes make sense for a television format and we feel that most of them have only enhanced the story so far. If you’re a fan of the books, or just want an edgy, fun show to add to your list be sure the check this one out!

We’re excited to see where this season of The 100 takes us, for sure! We’re also glad that red-head Clark didn’t last. The look just didn’t suit her, but we agreed that we watch the show for all the other characters at this point anyway.

As for Game of Thrones, we’re a bit disappointed that the show has diverged so far away from the books. We still have a great love for Arya, but are feeling meh about her storyline changes. Jamie Lannister is slowly making his way back into our hearts after that unfortunate backslide in character development the show creators gave him, and we want more of Brienne and Jamie’s friendship. More Brienne in general, really. Lastly, we are all so pissed off at how the show is treating Sansa. She deserves so much more, a lot of the characters do.

We also have a great love for K-Dramas over here at T3, our current favorite is Cheese in the Trap. Lisa has seen all of the aired episodes, and absolutely adores it. Erin just started, but is already hooked, and agrees with Lisa that Seol should end up with In Ho. (Seo Kang Joon is *heart eyes*)

We (and by ‘we’ I mean Lisa & Amanda) gushed over our current video game obsessions of Dragon Age: Inquisition and Fallout 4. Mostly we discussed the aims of our affection in Dragon Age (Blackwall! *swoon*) and how we felt about the endings of The Witcher 3, which we both just finished playing recently.

Erin has a bit of on obsession with K-Pop, and wants to spread that obsession wherever she can. Which means—tada! Weekly song recommendations you didn’t ask for! This week, in honor of Winner’s recent comeback (finally they came back! *happy dance*), I urge you to listen to Mino & Taehyun’s “Pricked”. Their voices fit so well together, I definitely want more from them as a duo. (Though I do fiercely love the whole group.)

Waiting For:

And finally, all the books that we’re excited for in the coming weeks!

Amanda can’t wait for The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine

Erin is looking forward to A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

Lisa wants to get Because of Miss Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

Do you have any thoughts or opinions on anything that we’re excited about this week? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to start some conversations with our readers!

Hope you have a wonderful day!
