Thursday Tea Break: Issue 3

Thursday Tea Break Header

Welcome to this week’s installment of Thursday Tea Break!

This is a fun, weekly series covering our get-togethers, what we are up to that week, and what books we are excited to get our hands on.

Tea of The Week

This week we tried a very special tea from Teavana; Peach Momotaro. This is a blooming tea that, while steeping, drifts around and “blooms” into a lovely flower of tea leaves and petals. This tea is a deliciously fruity green tea that made us think of sipping ice tea in rocking chairs on front porches during a lazy summer afternoon. The scent was absolutely divine (it smells like peach rings!) and Erin had this lovely glass pot so that we could watching the process as it steeped.

Current Reads

Amanda is still reading The Magicians by Lev Grossman. and started reading Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard.

Erin is still reading Through the Ever Night by Veronica Rossi.

Lisa is still reading The Poison King: The Life and Legend of Mithradates, Rome’s Deadliest Enemy by Adrienne Mayor.

Our Current Obsessions

Last Wednesday, Erin and Amanda went to a stop along the TruthRider tour featuring Susan Dennard (one of our absolute favorite authors), Veronica Rossi, and E.K. Johnston. It was a great event with much enlightening talk of writing processes, when research becomes too much research, and who makes for the best romance in Dragon Age: Inquisition — which, of course, was a very important topic.

Susan, Veronica, and E.K.

The event was a lot of fun and we ended up hanging around afterwards to chat with the authors and introduce them to Sir Wellington T. Novel III, Esquire!

Sir Wellington is our handmade, handsome mascot from back in the first days of T3 and has gone to every author event with us to meet some of his favorite people — authors! Over the years we have added pages as we needed them and have gathered quite a collection of author notes and doodles.

Susan was actually the first person to meet and sign Welly, she gave him this fancy little parasol to go with his dashing monocle. The silver stars near author messages indicate how many times we have met that particular person.

We spent much of our meeting this week discussing ideas for future posts that we should be rolling out in the next few weeks! We would can’t wait to be able to share some of these fun ideas with all of you. ❤

Diligently hand-writing the calligraphy on Welly’s spine. He was finally wide enough to write on comfortably.

As usual we also discussed the TV that we have been watching lately! Shadowhunters has been getting better with more Magnus in it, and Cheese in the Trap has been heating up! The new season of Vikings started and The Magicians is still being excellent — despite having veered away from the book.

Yesterday marked the annual Twin Peaks day – February 24th, 11 am – so Amanda sat down with a doughnut and coffee – black as midnight on a moonless night (it wasn’t, it gives me heartburn without cream) – a had a mini-marathon of the first few episodes of the show. You will get the coffee joke if you have watched the show. If not, you should watch the show. It is weird and semi-creepy (it’s a murder mystery) and funny, has won tons of awards (including being named one of the top 50 shows of all time) and Special Agent Dale Cooper will win a place in your heart, right next to donuts and coffee.

Erin’s K-Pop recommendation this week is “All Eyez On Me” by Topp Dogg, which has been stuck in my head for the last couple days.

Waiting For

Amanda is excited to get Siren’s Song by Mary Weber!

Erin can’t wait for The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski.

What are your thoughts on the current TV schedule, or any shows that are starting up again? (Gotham, anyone?) We’d love to hear from you and say hi to Welly!

P.S. Can you tell we remembered to take more pictures this time?
