Top 10 Tuesday Header

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Ten Books Every ____ Should Read… We are each picking a different topic for this one so we hope that you find something new that you can enjoy as much as we have!

Erin’s Picks: 4 Books About Kick-Ass Girls You Should Read

(I mean, girls that can and will literally kick your ass.)

1. Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas

I name this series nearly every time I’m asked for recommendations, and this time is no different. Filled with murder, magic, and intrigue; led by snarky assassin Celaena Sardothien, Throne of Glass is definitely one book you do not want to miss.

2. Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers

Like Throne of Glass, I love this series to bits, and recommend it often. About assassin nuns dedicated to the god of Death, this first book follows Ismae as she is sent undercover to find and kill a traitor in the midst of the Duchess of Brittany’s court.

3. Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins

A fun read about Harper Price, who becomes a Paladin, or guardian, and is tasked with protecting the loathsome David and saving the world.

4. The Falconer by Elizabeth May

Aileana is a trained faery-killer and intent on avenging her mother’s death—but the fae have other plans. This is a most excellent novel that I couldn’t put down.

Amanda’s Picks: 5 Books Every Magic-lover Should Read

1. Libromancer by Jim C Hines

Not only is this about magic, it’s about book magic!  Reach in a book, pull out a piece of it! What could be cooler than that?! These are absolutely engaging and fun reads.

2. Truthwitch by Susan Dennard

I love the idea of the Witcheries in this book and actually discussed the background of them at length with Susan because I enjoyed the idea so much. If you haven’t already read this book, shame on you. Go read it. It’s amazing.

3. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

I tell everyone to read these books, because everyone should. The entire world that has been created for these books is just drenched in magic and excitement! Not to mention the characters are some of my favorite book characters.

4. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

This is another one of those books that will stay with you long after you finish it. The visuals and creative use of magic are just stunning and I love the idea of such a mysterious circus.

5. Sweep Series by Cate Tiernan

I read this series a long time ago, but it is one of those stories that has stayed with me this whole time. This isn’t so much geared towards the fantastical magic but is based around witchcraft and Wicca which, at the time, was not an easy topic to find books in.

Bonus: The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher

I can’t bring up the topic of magic without steering people in the direction of my absolutely all-time-favorite books!

Do you have any books that you think also fit in these categories? We’d love to hear about them!
