Teaser Tuesday (9)

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

To play along, just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

I actually finished Clockwork Princess a couple days ago, but I haven’t really read much since, so CP2 is where the teaser is from this week.

“I may have helped you before,” Magnus said. “But this—” He sighed. “Think, the pair of you. If someone is buying up all the yin fen in the country, then it is someone who has a reason. And who has a reason to do that?”

It was quite hard to find a non-spoilery teaser, as this is the last book in a trilogy, but on my 4th at-random page flip, I came came across this one, which I think is a really great teaser (but, as I have read the book, I could be wrong).

What do you think?

Teaser Tuesday (8) & Tuesday Tea Break (1)

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading.

This week’s teaser comes from Daughter of Smoke & Bone. I just started this book last night and am reading it for the Vaginal Fantasy Book club over on Goodreads, it’s this month’s main pick!

“Here was an itch that could not be scratched in public…Karou gave him a short respite and kept drawing. As soon as he started to relax and…unclench…she struck again and had to stifle a laugh when his face went rigid. Another bead vanished between her fingers. Then another.”

This scene was so fun and wonderfully written! As a whole it gives you a good sense of Karou, the main character, and the fun that you can expect to find throughout the book.

Tuesday Tea Break

This post needs a header. Unfortunately, we don’t have one, but if you would be so kind as to imagine a really pretty one right up there at the top, that would be great! Thanks <3!

So while I sit here gorging myself on chili cheese fries (yum!) and trying to decide if I can even think of enough books for this weeks Top 10 Tuesday (I can’t) I figured it was time for an update. Things have been pretty quiet around here lately and the natives are getting restless. We’ve been tossing a few ideas around to try and shake things up and a few have stuck. Here’s a list!

Things we’d like to implement here at T3:

1. Post-“taste” Reviews.

After much discussion over lattes (hot chocolate for Erin) we came to the conclusion that most people don’t read reviews. If you’re the kind of person that reads the whole review, please don’t take offense to this claim. We love and appreciate you for the beautiful butterfly that you are! But the truth is, they don’t and we include ourselves in this group too. I personally get so many reviews everyday that I just don’t have time to read ALL the ones that interest me. I usually look at the rating and then skim through the actual review looking for something interesting. Some reviews are just ridiculously long and in-depth. Neither Erin or I are that analytical when it comes to reviewing books (Lisa is, but she’s been busy with moving and what not) so we like a quick summary of thoughts on the book. Pros, cons, etc.

Enter the Post-“taste” Review! Eh, get it? Post-“TASTE” like haste, only tea themed…okay. I’ll admit, I came up with as a joke title, but we kept coming back to it and it just stuck. We like it. It’s staying. Anyways, the Post-“taste” Review is a quick 3-5 sentence quick review of our thoughts on the book. Great for the people who just want to know the good and the bad.

2. Tuesday Tea Break Vlogs.

This is a recent addition that we haven’t implemented yet. We’re still working out the logistics, but we like the idea because it’s something different. I don’t know of many review blogs that have vlogs. Maybe I just haven’t found them, whatever. We’re behind of a lot of things, author signings, release updates, all sorts of things, and vlogs would be a faster way, over all, for us to get those out to you guys! Also, I used to make vlogs and I really miss them.

Not only will we catch you up on all things bookish in our little corner of the internet, but we can catch you up on anything else we feel like, AND introduce you to our favorite teas! I mean, we’re a tea themed review blog but we really don’t have much tea stuff going on here and that makes us sad.

3. New “Sunday Posts”

We’d like to give you guys a more “all-inclusive” sunday post and not just “hey, look at all the books we got!”Partly because it’s the same old, same old every week and partly because I haven’t been buying books (still on my self-imposed book buying ban) so I don’t feel like I have much to contribute. We’re working on what kind of content to fill the sunday posts with still, so if there’s anything that you guys would like to see let us know! We’d love your input!

So those are the main things going on over here. We’re trying to make a blog that’s more interesting for all of you, our darling readers. Let us know how we’re doing!

Have a wonderful day!

This week’s Teaser Tuesday comes from Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride. I’m thoroughly enjoying this book right now!

“I screamed and grabbed a butter knife off the counter. I’m not sure what I planned to do with it, but in the meantime I held it in front of me just in case Brooke suddenly grew her body back and attacked. I mean, if she could talk, what was stopping her from leaping up and gnawing piranha-style on my ankles?”

and a bonus (cause this book has so many good lines)!:

“Umbrellas are for tourists. Natives know that the rain doesn’t come straight down here like other places, Seattle’s rain slips in, tricky, like a ninja, and attacks from all sides.”

What are you reading right now?

My teaser comes from. . .

I pointed to the nearest trailer. “They have cameras installed,” my voice rasped. “In every one of them.”

Chubs sucked in a sharp breath.

“You’re sure?” Liam’s voice was calm—too calm. I could tell he was forcing it, even as his fingers fumbled to put the keys in the ignition.

The van’s back tires spun against the mud as he threw it into reverse. I went tumbling on to my  backside with the force of his acceleration.

I just finished The Darkest Minds, and LOVED it! My teaser is a small taste of what the rest of the book is like (and you all should read it!).

My teaser comes from. . .

“You can’t touch me,” I whisper. I’m lying, is what I don’t tell him. He can touch me, is what I’ll never tell him. Please touch me, is what I want to tell him.
But things happen when people touch me. Strange things. Bad things.
     Dead things.

I’m re-reading Shatter Me because of Pitch Dark’s Shatter Me re-read-a-thon, and I’m falling in love with it all over again. I’m trying to pace myself because the read-a-thon last all week, so this is a quote from the very beginning (pg. 11).

Erin

My teaser comes from. . .

“I noticed you the first week.” His voice was soft. “Not just because of how pretty you are, though of course, that played into it.” I smiled, watching our feet as we matched steps. “It was the way you lean onto your elbows when you’re listening in class, when something catches your interest. And when you laugh, it’s never to get attention, it’s just—laughter. The way you obsessively tuck your hair behind your ear on the left side, but let the right side fall down like a screen. And when you’re bored, you tap your foot soundlessly and move your fingers on the desktop like your playing an instrument. I wanted to sketch you.”

I usually like to pick funny teasers, but Easy isn’t that kind of book, so I went with swoony instead. I also cheated a bit with this teaser, (I finished Easy yesterday afternoon and included way more than 2 lines) but I didn’t choose my current read until an hour before this post went up.

Erin:

My teaser comes from. . .

One of the lambs fixed it’s attention on Jared. “Baa,” it flirted.
“Boo,” said Jared.
“Oh my God, Jared. Don’t tough talk the lambs.”
“It was giving me a funny look,” Jared claimed, boosting himself over the next stile.

This book has so many funny lines, that I’m constantly laughing out loud (and getting many strange looks, because I’m usually in public).
